Mrs Anne Olsson
I am excited to let you know that last year I was offered and accepted Campania District School’s Acting principal role. There is now a formal selection process underway so you can be assured the outcome of that process will be known in the coming weeks.
My goals as Acting Principal are to ensure a smooth transition into 2023, to keep a steady hand at the helm, and to lead, support and extend the excellent work of Mr D (Paul Dalla-Fontana) and the team that is Campania District School. Along with the excellent work of our outstanding school business manager, our senior staff, our teachers, teacher assistants and support staff, our school is well-positioned to cater for our diverse school community needs. My priority is focused on keeping our school on an improvement trajectory that is underpinned by our values of Respect, Resilience and Learning.
It is pleasing to report that Campania District School has had a smooth and positive start in terms of readiness and commitment to learning and social interaction. It is wonderful to see how well our K – 12 campus operates as a school community. Thank you to our families and carers, for your role in helping to make it a smooth and well-prepared start to the year. Uniform is looking great, too. We are off to a fine start.
There’s an old addage: ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and the support we provide includes an important range of people who are highly valued and who, at every turn, support our students and play crucial roles in the smooth operations of the school. Be it our school business manager, front office staff, dedicated teachers and senior staff, our support teacher, teacher assistants, volunteers, cleaners and grounds person (valued EFAs), canteen manager, speech therapist, speech development assistant, school nurse, laboratory technician, library technician, MDT technician, IT technician, social worker, school psychologist, members of our School Association committee or our families; we recognise that each and every member of our school community has a vital role to play in supporting our students to have positive school experiences.
We are committed to helping our students to recognise and display a healthy respect for our shared educational goals. Fun and positive social interaction that respects the need for safe and healthy boundaries are encouraged. We have a clear positive student behaviour management flowchart that helps students to understand our school’s expectations, boundaries and our processes. Our students are well-positioned to know and respect where the line is and, importantly, why we have and hold those lines. In this balance, a strong focus on learning means committing to being our personal best, to growing and learning in an environment that encourages and respects making mistakes as part of learning. Mistakes are opportunities for learning. If we never make mistakes, then we are probably not pushing ourselves to grow, strive, thrive, improve and hit personal goals. If we shy away from mistakes, we reduce opportunities to build our resilience.
At Campania District School, we want and need to provide and foster learning environments in which students are safe and feel safe to push themselves, to strive to be their best, to make mistakes in an environment that will support them, to experience ‘light bulb’ moments, and to achieve personal bests as they grow.
I wish everyone a bright, happy, safe and fulfilling 2023 school year.
Please check your child's bag for validation forms. We require them back ASAP. If you have any questions please ring the school office.
As we return back to school, reduced speed zones are back into effect. Please make sure you obey the 40kmh speed signs and No Parking zones in front of the school. This is in place to ensure the safety of everybody.
Please also remember that flashing lights on our school buses mean that the bus is stopping to load or unload students. The law requires you to slow to 40kmh or less within 50m of the bus.
We welcome and encourage our families to stay in touch with our school.
Feel welcome to contact the school to check in on your child’s progress or if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions. We are strong advocates of working in partnership with families to achieve positive outcomes for our students.
You are welcome to contact me, senior staff members or our teachers at any point during the year. As always, often your best first contact is with your child’s home group or subjectteacher, as they are best positioned to respond to questions and concerns about your child. When you contact the school, our front office staff will be able to help direct your call and may be able to either put you through directly or alternatively they will take your details and organise for the relevant person to make contact when they are available to do so.
Please be aware that providing the main point for the call, where possible, enables our front office staff to include a note about the main point of the contact. We request this information to help the staff member to be better positioned to assist when they contact you. We understand though that sometimes the reason for calling may be sensitive so please know that sometimes that is all you need to communicate. Please also be aware that due to teaching load, and a wide range of miscellaneous educational commitments, such as duty responsibilities, setting up for the day, scheduled meetings, the requested staff member may be unable to take your call initially so contact details and a message is always appreciated. We value your contact and will be back in touch as soon as possible.
If for any reason you have not received a response, please contact the school to let us know and we will follow-up.

Suggested Listening for Busy Parents and Carers:
As you may, or may not be aware, there’s an ABC radio series designed specifically for parents and carers. It’s called Parental As Anything
Over the summer holidays I came across - by pure accident - a valuable and interesting ABC Radio series that can be streamed and/or downloaded (available on the ABC Radio App). You can also find episodes on Apple Podcasts if that helps. It’s called Parental as Anything, is hosted by Maggie Dent, and episodes cover a wide range of topics. In our time poor modern society and, the all too often crazy pace of our days, these are potentially accessible to even the busiest of parents and carers. They can be listened to easily. These 10 – 30 minute episodes can be slotted into our busy lives far easier than reading a book or even sitting down to watch a television program. When I first came across this series I was listening to the radio whilst doing household chores. The second episode I heard as I was driving by myself during the holidays.
The two episodes I have listened to are filled with common sense tips, input from people with field area expertise and were very helpful and reassuring. I listened to: When your child hates school which features Adam Voigt (founder of Real Schools) and Help: My child crumbles when he’s not good at something which has a great range of useful insights into fostering a growth mindset and shifting a fixed mindset.
ABC summary:
One of Australia's favourite parenting authors and educators Maggie Dent gives you tips and answers to your real-world parenting dilemmas. Parental As Anything is a common sense, relatable, practical guide on raising kids of all ages today.
Please, if you can make the time, have a listen. Some messages are ‘gold’.

We are proud of our students here at Campania District School. Our students are a caring and friendly group, ranging from Kinder through to Year 12. They are supported by a strong student voice. That student voice is carried through the combined contributions of our Student Leadership Team members.
We celebrate a student leadership team that has strengthened its processes over recent years and demonstrates commitment to representing our student body. Members from Grade 3 through to Year 12 offer insight, put forward ideas, raise concerns, lead events, review and offer input into our school policies and processes and help our school and its community bring about positive change. Students who held a leadership position last year, continue to hold their position until the 2023/2024 student elections take place. It gives us continuity and enables us to maintain the momentum of the student leadership team. We extend our thanks to our outgoing Year 10s and Senior Secondary student leaders who are continuing their schooling at colleges. Of course, in case it doesn’t go without saying, Campania District School extends its very best wishes to all students from Year 10, 11 and 12 who have embarked on further studies outside of our school, secured apprenticeships or secured other gainful employment.
Campania District School Association Nominations
We are inviting members to join our School Association. Nomination forms are available from the school office and will be sent home to families. A place to share skills and knowledge to support the school.
Nominations for vacancies close on 14th March and can be returned to the school office or emailed to neroli.clothier@education.tas.gov.au.
