Campania District School Newsletter ¬– Written by student leaders Holly and Maddi
What has been happening since our last newsletter?
Last week from the 5th till the 8th of September, a group of students from year 7 to 10 participated in the SMARTS program run by The Smith Family in partnership with AFTRS (The Australian Film Television and Radio School.) In the four days students filmed and edited two videos. One being about our school, and the second about their favourite exhibition at TMAG (The Tasmanian Museum and art Gallery). Once they had finished their second video students presented the film to parents and some year 7-8 students. Well done to all the students that participated and thank you to Gareth and Lara for coming in and running the program.
Next Tuesday on the 19th of September there will be a footy/sports colours day. If students participate it will be a gold coin donation. The money that we raise from the day will be going towards the Fight Cancer Foundation. We look forward to seeing students wearing their favourite footy/sports colours.
This Thursday on the 14th a primary assembly will be held in the PAC at 9:10am. Next week on Monday the 18th a secondary assembly will be held in the PAC at 9:10am. All family members are welcome to attend.
On Tuesday the 26th of September (week 10) students from grade 3 to 12 will be going to the Oatlands Pool for the swimming carnival. We can’t wait to see everyone wearing their house colours, good luck to all the students participating in the races. Thank you Mrs Parker for organising the event!
For the rest of term on Mondays all students will be provided with a free lunch. On a Friday morning in home room secondary students will be participating in different challengers against other classes. More information and photos will be shared in upcoming newsletters and on the school Facebook.
The 2023 School Satisfaction Surveys
On Tuesday 5th September a few of the Campania Football Team went down to Richmond Football Oval. Congratulations to Madison for winning the Campania Footy 'Best on ground' for our games. Thank you to Campania Football Club for the wonderful donation given to Madison.
Thanks to Brett and his team for another great season. We look foward to being able to join the competition again in 2024.
On Wednesday 6th September the Gr8 STEM class dissected frogs. We had 8 work stations set up around the lab. Each student participated with safety gear and great resilience. In class they have been working on the Digestive system, they got to see the small and large intestines along with the frog's heart.

Lunch Time Activities/ School hat reminder
With the beautiful weather we had last week Mr S got some bikes out at lunch time for some of the students to take in turns riding around the track. The Art room was open for half of lunch, Stella made a beautiful paper plane.
Just a reminder to start finding our Campania school hats ready for Term 4. Primary students need a Campania School Hat and secondary hat is optional.

The One/Two class have started a Biological Science Unit during Term Three. Students have been exploring ideas on how to help animals. We discussed; what different animals like versus what they need. The class have made bird feeders out of recycled materials and placed them around the school. As we visit our feeders, we can see that our nearby birds are enjoying our designs.
Grade 9s in STEM are preparing for the lamb's brain dissection. They used cauliflowers and paint to make a brain. They showed the different sections.
Sorell School Farm Visit Prep/1
On Thursday August 17th Prep/1 visited the Sorell School Farm.
The children were excited to engage with the animals. They fed them and learnt interesting facts about looking after different farm animals.
There was much chatter about how cute they were and which was their favourite!
We had a lovely and exhausting day out.
On Thursday 7th September the participants of the SmArts project went to TMAG. They spent some time going through the museum for inspiration to create their movies. Some were inspired by the Thylacine exhibit, others were fascinated by the Antarctica exploration exhibit. Students then did some script writing to outline their film and spent time recording, using the techniques that Gareth and Lara had taught them. The films were edited to completion on Friday.
